The Seattle Sounders face the LA Galaxy in their final regular season match of the year. It's at home, on national TV (NBC), determines the winner in the Supporters' Shield race, and falls a week after Seattle came from behind to tie the Galaxy on the road.
Since these teams faced each other only one week ago (see last week's infographic here), I've changed the format of this graphic—focusing more on defensive vs. offensive and home vs. away stats for both teams. Let's see what this new data uncovers.
Notable Player Absences
Omar Gonzalez, the glue that holds the Galaxy defense together, is out this match after picking up two yellow cards against the Sounders last week.
It will surprise nobody that the Sounders play much better at home, and the Galaxy much worse on the road. But the differences in home vs. away performance are pretty shocking.
While the Sounders have conceded 50 goals this season, only 16 have come at home (and 3 of those goals were scored by LA earlier this season). Meanwhile, the Galaxy have conceded 21 goals on the road (60% of all goals given up by LA).
The Sounders give up only 10.3 shots at home, compared to 13.1 shots conceded in all MLS action. The Galaxy concede 1.5 more shots per game on the road (12.0 vs. 10.5 in all MLS play).
There's a lot at stake this weekend, which means you should probably disregard everything in this graphic and just enjoy the match. But before you do that, share your match predictions below!
