Saturday's match is Fan Appreciation Day. Seattle Sounders FC sent out a press release with some fairly ordinary language about give-aways and other methods of fan recognition. There was also mention about a Supporters' Shield education/presentation event prior to the match - all pretty straightforward stuff really.
There was also this line;
featuring a special pre-match banner ceremony to commemorate specific Sounders FC accomplishments.
That kind of statement leads to a fun guessing game. A 2014 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup banner would make a lot of sense. But there's a plural used.
This tweet gives some fuel to the guessing game.
It also provides no answers. There is certainly a strong history of soccer here in Seattle. There are trophies won prior to MLS. There looks to be only one single space where there used to be two.
Arriving early for the final match of the season makes sense on many levels, and you'll get a special moment. Remember this is a full stadium match so plan accordingly. Parking will be expensive, while transit will be more crowded than usual.
Here's more info about the giveaways and other events according to the press release.
Fan Appreciation Day also features over 500 giveaways, including authentic Sounders FC-signed memorabilia. Throughout the match, the team and its partners will celebrate the loudest fans in the MLS by awarding prizes to fans in various sections. Fan giveaways include the following:
- Twenty (20) SUBWAY® $5 gift cards
- One (1) $500 credit on TireBuyer.com toward a set of Continental Tires
- Delta Dental & Sounders FC toothbrush holders
