Sounder at Heart readers chose Chad Marshall as man of the match and awarded he and Obafemi Martins with ratings over 8 for the Seattle Sounders draw on the road against the LA Galaxy last week.
Scores for the performance were generally high, with 10 of the 13 players who appeared receiving scores of more than 6.5. Clint Dempsey and Osvaldo Alonso both received scores higher than 7.
Stefan Frei and Brad Evans were the only starters who received scores below a "good" 6, as did substitute Chad Barrett, who received mostly "incomplete" scores for his very short appearance at the end of the game.
My scores were generally lower than the community, with the notable exceptions of Marshall, Dempsey and Marco Pappa, whom I scored a 9, 8 and 8, respectively.
Here are the scores for the game. Reader scores follow the player's name, followed by my ratings in parenthesis and then the difference between those two numbers in italics:
Player: Average Fan Rating (Author Rating) Difference
Stefan Frei 5.27 (5) +0.27
DeAndre Yedlin: 6.61 (6) +0.61
Chad Marshall: 8.28 (9) -0.72
Zach Scott: 6.63 (6) +0.63 A good score for Zach here. It's become obvious to everyone that the Sounders are at their best with Zach next to Marshall in the center of the back.
Leo Gonzalez: 6.63 (7) -0.37
Osvaldo Alonso: 7.25 (7) +0.25
Gonzalo Pineda: 6.70 (6) +0.70
Brad Evans: 5.48 (5) +0.48
Lamar Neagle: 6.78 (6) +0.78
Clint Dempsey: 7.34 (8) -0.66
Obafemi Martins: 8.12 (8) +0.12
Marco Pappa: (64th minute) 6.99 (8) -1.01 One of the bigger score differences we have had in a while. I thought Marco was the key player in turning up the Sounders offense. His movement and passes started both of the attacks that led to goals. Still, a 7 is a fine score in this system, and that's what he got from most of you rating this game.
Chad Barrett: (87th minute) 5.32 (incomplete) ~
The key to the 1-10 scale:
