The regular season is over. Only the strong remain.

Seattle

If you haven't had your fill of the "most important regular season game in MLS history," listen to Ross Fletcher's call again.

There's no rest for the wicked awesome, as rumors have the EPL calling for Clint Dempsey's services this coming January. Before you all have a collective heart attack, let me add the word "loan" right here. Jeremiah should have more on that later today.

Sounder at Heart Fredy Montero had a real purdy goal for Sporting Portugal over the weekend.

Instead of settling for the party line, LAG Confidential went after the real story on Obafemi Martins' dangerous lunge at AJ DeLaGarza in the first leg of the season finale at Los Angeles Galaxy.

Professional soccer has returned to Tacoma as the old Tacoma Stars took the pitch again and took a win from the Seattle Impact in a 7-4 victory. Looking through the match report reveals some familiar names, like Sounders academy products Duncan McCormick (sun of former Stars player Dick McCormick) and Jamael Cox, and Sounders Director of Youth Development Darren Sawatsky.

MLS

In this writer's eyes, the biggest news of the weekend was the final game out of Chivas USA. The club heartrendingly won their final match, besting the San Jose Earthquakes at home with a 1-0 score. There have been all sorts of good suggestions for the rebranding of LA2, but what could be more fitting than "Phoenix?" (Sorry Atlanta, Phoenix AZ)

For now though, employees of the team are sitting on the demon spawn of needles and eggshells, desperately attempting to sway their higher power and keep their jobs.

Bradley Wright-Phillips has somewhat quietly gone ahead and tied the MLS record for goals scored in a single season, matching Chris Wondolowski's 2012 effort (as well as a 1996 tally from Roy Lassiter.) With rumors suggesting that strike partner Thierry Henry won't be around to feed him those balls, many will be looking to see if Wright-Phillips can bring a similar level of production while commanding a greater respect. To his success, I have no objection.

Members of The Fort got in on the tifo game, urging their team on with a hoisted banner.

Keeping track of all the playoff matchups is hard, so I'll let Greg Lalas and Jason Saghini do it for me.

Some terrible people were responsible for gunning down South Africa keeper Senzo Meyiwa during an attempted break-in. Reward for information is 14,000 dollars.
