The Galaxy were on top of the league for an LA minute thanks to their 3-0 win over Toronto FC, Obviously, our own three-goal win took the lead back (we lead on tiebreakers.) The Supporter's Shield Race is going to go down to that final home and home series, no matter what happens on Friday.
This site is once again nominated n the "Best of Western Washington" poll/awards in the "Best Sports Blog" category. In fact, we are the defending champs. And this isn't grade school, where everyone gets a turn wearing the fancy hat.
The Cascadia rivalry between Vancouver and Portland will take center stage for the last few weeks, even if the only actual matchup in the competition is VAN-SEA. Four Western Conference spots are all but spoken for, and Vancouver and Portland are straddling the all-important red line with 43 and 42 points apiece. The Timbers came back to beat San Jose keeping things close, but will end their season against Salt Lake and Dallas. If they do end up being one of the five, it would have to be one of the all time great "Regularation" escapes in MLS history.
Vancouver's first ever draft pick (number one overall in 2011) was Omar Salgado, thought to be perhaps the best young American talent in the system. Due to a combination of underachieving and unlucky injuries, Salgado's talents have not yet been realized. Vancouver may be hoping that a 12-day trial at Tigres will do...something...
Then again, Real Salt Lake just might not be all they're cracked up to be right now. Their most recent game was a 1-0 loss to Chivas USA where they described themselves as being "frustrated" by the mighty Chivas defense (henceforth known as the GOAT HERD.)
New York City FC is trying to lure Juan Agudelo to the other side of the Hudson River (he previously played for New York Red Bulls), but Agudelo, who hasn't been on a club for a year, has his heart set on getting signed by a European team. Someone needs to sit down with the kid and show him a picture of DeAndre Yedlin in a Tottenham kit.
After it was announced that Chivas USA had been sold to people like Vincent Tan (can't get over that aspect...) the internet in its infinite knowledge produced pictures of that new ownership going to a Dodgers game with Alexi Lalas. It was speculated that he would be part of the group, but instead it seems they were just "picking his brain."
Sports Myriad sees the future of MLS (and other domestic leagues.) New York Red Bulls will be New York Cosmos (playing in a rebranded "Pele Arena"), Chivas will be back as SCSC Wanderers (I could probably get behind that) and Miami's Mariners will go through two new stadiums in five years. Also, the NWSL will be a success, especially after Merritt Paulson personally replaces all team fields with real grass.
MVP voting is silly, but according to LAGConfidential, it's especially silly when considering a certain Seattle player.
The new MLS all-time assists leader is Landon Donovan.
Call it a home-field advantage: When the new Major Arena Soccer League kicks off next year, some teams will have different points rules than others. While 19 of the 23 teams will have familiar rules for awarding points for ties, four will have a slightly more complicated system.
18 year-old American Rubio Rubin contributed two assists to Dutch league's FC Uterecht's performance over the weekend, making a push to become a starter for the club.
