For the sixth time in the past seven years a Sounder is the best player in the Open Cup.

Kenny Cooper did not play in the US Open Cup Final. He did score six goals on the team that won the tournament, and for that he earned recognition as the Player of the Tournament in 2014. Six Kennys Cooper scored twice against PSA Elite, netted a goal against the San Jose Earthquakes, scored the winner against the Portland Timbers and earned his second brace of the tourney against the Chicago Fire.

With two assists in the Fire game he totaled 14 points (two for a goal, one for an assist) tying the modern record for points in a single Open Cup tournament. His 13 total Open Cup goals are second on the list to former Sounder Seb Le Toux.

Le Toux finished second this year and was previously a finalist for the award with Seattle.

The modern day award list shows just how high Hanauer & Co have held this tournament. The first Sounder to win the Player of the Tournament was Chris Eylander of the USL-1 Sounders in 2008. Like Kenny he did not play in the Final.

Then the dominance of the MLS Sounders starts - Kasey Keller, Nate Jaqua, Fredy Montero, Osvaldo Alonso and now Cooper. DeRo won last year.
