2014 Dispersal Draft order determined - Sounders pick 19th

New, 71 comments

MLS had a random draw for the now defunct Chivas USA team which saw playoff teams have a 3.33% chance at getting the top pick and non-playoff teams have a 6.66% chance at the top pick.

Earlier today, in a highly anticipated reallocation of players from The Club Formerly Known as Chivas, a weighted draw saw all 20 MLS teams lined up to select the most desirable Goat. It's a chance only few clubs will ever get, as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to choose players like, umm, hold on, gotta check MLS rosters real fast... oh, well, that's disappointing.

Erick Torres will be withheld from the draft, as he's too good to just be passed along to the likes of whichever team's name was drawn first. A player being selected in the draft will have their 2015 contract picked up at their full 2015 budget charges. Any selected player not protected in the Expansion Draft will be available for selection from either New York City FC or Orlando City SC. Any player not selected in Dispersal Draft will be available in the upcoming Re-Entry Draft.

In order to determine the draft order, all playoff teams had one envelope in a pot with non-playoff teams having two envelopes. It's interesting to note that 4 of the first 5 teams were playoff teams, and 6 out of the first 7 teams are from the Eastern Conference. At the end Seattle had a 50/50 chance at being selected last, but that dubious distinction belongs to Vancouver, who can't seem to do anything right these days.

The Dispersal Draft will be held by conference call on November 19th.
