Sounder at Heart readers chose Chad Marshall as Man of the Match for the second game in a row as the Seattle Sounders advanced to the second round of the MLS Cup tournament with a 0-0 draw with FC Dallas in Seattle.
Marshall received an 8.40 average rating from about 325 ballots cast for the game, .02 higher that he received from the first game of the two-game set with Dallas. Only Clint Dempsey has put up a two-game performance similar in eyes of readers, scoring 8.71 and 8.61 in games against Portland and Dallas in April.
Marshall wasn't the only one who received high ratings from readers though, as pleasure with the performance spread throughout the side. Only Marco Pappa finished below a 6 "good" among the starters, and then only barely earning a 5.91.
Read on to see the scores from this season-capping game. Community scores are followed by my scored in parenthesis and then the difference between the two:
Player: Average Fan Rating (Author Rating) Difference
Stefan Frei 7.04 (6) +1.04 I thought Stefan was fine in this one but surprised to see him earn a very good rating here considering how little he touched the ball.
DeAndre Yedlin: 6.66 (6) +0.66
Chad Marshall: 8.40 (9) -0.60
Zach Scott: 7.20 (7) +0.20
Leo Gonzalez: 6.69 (7) -0.31
Osvaldo Alonso: 7.16 (6) +1.16 I'm a bit surprised Ozzie got such a high score here considering he left so early with injury and statistically speaking, he didn't have a huge impact before getting injured. Love to hear from those of you who scored him an 8 here. Enlighten me in the comments below.
Gonzalo Pineda: 6.44 (7) -0.56 The comments about Gonzalo's play in this game were pretty striking, with several people saying in the balloting thread they thought he was poor in the first half in particular. It looks like the general community thought he did pretty well on the whole, though.
Brad Evans: 6.97 (7) -0.03
Marco Pappa: 5.91 (6) -0.09
Clint Dempsey: 6.53 (7) -0.47
Obafemi Martins: 6.96 (7) -0.04
