Major Link Soccer: Honors for Young Sounders

New, 32 comments

Yedlin, Jones, Morris get some deserved recognition. Thierry Henry won't even tell you what he's planning to have for lunch. No one likes us, even teams that haven't started playing!

Pac-12 Men's all-conference honors have been announced.  A few familiar names pop up throughout the top players, including one Darwin Jones and one Jordan Morris on the all-conference First Team.

In case you missed yesterday's story, DeAndre Yedlin is nominated for US Young Male Player of the Year, and lets just say his co-nominees weren't seen bombing down the flanks at the World Cup.

The Mane Land will be SB Nation's Orlando City blog, but currently they are getting things started on an independent wordpress site.  Obviously one of the first tasks as an expansion side is predicting which team will be your biggest rival. Guess who made the list of candidates?

Let’s face it, everyone we’ve talked to around MLS has told us we’ll hate the Sounders. They’re good, they’ve got that huge fan base, and it seems like they’re one of the league’s real darling franchises right now. If anyone from the Western Conference is likely to become Orlando City’s rivals, it is probably the Sounders. I mean, they wear green, for God’s sake. Few colors clash with purple as badly as green.

I agree that it will make for a pretty clash-ey pitch when the two teams face off.  No one likes us, we don't care!

Some disturbing sexual assault allegations have been directed at Dion Earl, the "owner, coach, and star" of the Seattle Impact of the Major Arena Soccer League.  I won't recap the story here, but there's a rundown at the link.  Of note, Dion uses the always-charming "My wife is too attractive for me to have assaulted anyone" defense.

The official rules for the Expansion Draft were released on the MLS website Wednesday, and Once A Metro would like to take this opportunity to say: "Thierry Henry, figure yourself out!" If he's staying, he'll need a protected spot, and if he's leaving, the fans would like to give him a proper sendoff!

Speaking of things Henry won't commit to, he punted a question from reporters about whether he will play in the second leg of the Eastern Conference Finals, which will be played on (gasp!) artificial turf.  That has kept the Frenchman out of big games before, but surely he's bluffing?

Six young Whitecaps are heading over to the UK for weeklong training stints.  Three will join up with Rangers FC in Scotland, and three others will head to Sounders sister club (not exactly) Derby County FC of the English Championship.

In case you haven't seen this piece on the MLS website, it's the detailed story of #LegenD's struggles with the mental side of the game, what made him step away, come back, and step away for good.

US Soccer and Beyond

An LA-based neurosurgeon says that athletes can recover back to 100 percent while "playing through" injury -- but only by disclosing their pain and receiving the proper rehab treatment.

Did Emmanuel Adebayor kick his own mother out of his house because she is a witch? He says no. Yeah, there is probably more to this story, but we'll have wait for Yedlin to get us the scoop from his new teammate.
