For just the second time in their history, the Seattle Sounders have qualified for the Western Conference finals. Just like last time, they'll be facing the LA Galaxy. The Sounders will be hoping this encounter goes very different than the last time they played at StubHub Center in the playoffs.
The Sounders -- as we are all painfully aware -- lost that match 3-0 and were roundly played off the pitch. But the circumstances were quite a bit different, it should be said.
That game was played on short rest after a tough series against Real Salt Lake. Eddie Johnson had to come off the bench, Alex Caskey started and Fredy Montero was their lone forward. Still, it's worth remembering that the Sounders went into first-half stoppage time clinging to a 0-0 tie.
It wouldn't be the craziest thing, then, if Sigi Schmid decided to go with a similarly defensive setup in this game. Osvaldo Alonso may be out -- he's being called a game-time decision -- and the Sounders would be perfectly happy to keep this game low-scoring. We'll find out soon.
Broadcast starts: 2 p.m. (Pacific), kickoff should be around 2:09 p.m.
