Sounders battling sickness, injuries ahead of playoff match

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

The numbers were a bit thin for Wednesday's training session at CenturyLink Field. Among those missing from the full-sided session were Leo Gonzalez, Marco Pappa, Andy Rose and Gonzalo Pineda.

Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid didn't seem particularly worried about anyone's availability for Monday's Western Conference semifinal against FC Dallas. Pineda apparently suffered a muscle injury during training ahead of Sunday's game. He and Andy Rose were both unavailable due to injury, which forced Schmid to put Aaron Long on the 18-man roster.

"Guys are making progress," Schmid said. "Pineda ran today so that was a good sign for him and he's feeling much better. Rose is back to running, should probably be in training [Thursday], Gonzo as well. It all depends on how he reacts today. Those guys are OK."

Pappa and Gonzalez are apparently battling some kind of sickness. Schmid quipped that they were among the players who decided not to get flu shots, but was optimistic they would be ready to play.
