Sounders sell out playoff match

Capacity will be limited to regular capacity.

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

There will be a full house urging the Seattle Sounders to victory in the Western Conference semifinals against FC Dallas on Monday. The team made the announcement on Thursday, while also noting that capacity will be limited to about 38,500 -- the seating configuration for most regular-season matches.

Limiting capacity to the regular-season number basically follows with past practice, as the team has never opened up the entire stadium for a conference semifinal. Last year's conference semifinal against the Portland Timbers, for instance, drew 38,507 and the knockout round match against the Colorado Rapids drew 32,204. The only time the full stadium was open in the playoffs was during the second leg of the 2012 Western Conference finals against the LA Galaxy.

A team official said that if the Sounders advance to the Western Conference finals that they would consider opening the stadium, depending on demand.

The Sounders also announced that Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready would "serenade" the crowd with an instrumental version of the Star Spangled Banner.

Year-round Attendance Result

2013-ko round 32,204 W, 2-0
2012-conf. finals 44,575 W, 2-1
2012-conf. semis 34,941 T, 0-0
2011-conf. semis 36,021 W, 2-0
2010-conf. semis 35,521 L, 1-0
2009-conf. semis 35,807 T, 0-0
