Ever since the Seattle Sounders joined MLS there have been two iconic elements to their shirts: The Rave Green color and the Xbox logo. Rave green is here to stay -- much to the amusement of opposing fans -- and so is the sponsorship. Geekwire.com confirmed Xbox's sponsorship was extended through at least 2016.
This news does not exactly come as a shocker, being as the Sounders had already confirmed that Xbox was going to be the shirt sponsor in 2015, but it does give anyone planning to buy a new shirt some assurance that it won't be out of date before its replaced. The Sounders will be getting new primary and secondary shirts ahead of the 2015 season, continuing the two-year cycle they've been on since joining MLS in 2009.
There was no word on how much Xbox will be paying, but it would stand to reason that it's an increase over the original five-year, $20 million they signed back in 2009 that ran out ahead of last season. There's also been no word on the sponsor for S2, which is apparently being sold separately.
