Chad Marshall, Obafemi Martins named to MLS Best XI

Chad Marshall and Obafemi Martins were both named to Major League Soccer's Best XI, marking the first time that two Seattle Sounders players had made that list in the same year. In fact, just one Sounders -- Osvaldo Alonso in 2012 -- had been named Best XI in the five previous season. The Sounders were one of four teams to have at least two players make the team, with the LA Galaxy taking up three spots.

Joining Marshall and Martins were goalkeeper Bill Hamid; defenders Bobby Boswell and Omar Gonzalez; midfielders Landon Donovan, Thierry Henry, Lee Nguyen and Diego Valeri; and forwards Robbie Keane and Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Neither Marshall nor Martins were particularly big surprises. Marshall has already been named the MLS Defender of the Year and Martins is one of three finalists for the MLS Most Valuable Player. Martins finished the year with 17 goals and 13 assists, both Sounders records.
