Breaking down Marcus Hahnemann's retirement announcement

As you probably know by now, Marcus Hahnemann retired on Wednesday night. There was no big press conference or even a formal announcement. The 42-year-old goalkeeper, shortly after telling the Seattle Sounders that he'd think about what he wanted to do, simply took a picture, opened up his Instagram account and sent out his message to the world: "Officially retired again for 4 th time. Hanging in a #treehouse."

It was a fitting way for Hahnemann to hang up his gloves, not just because of the simple message, but because of how he staged it. And really, isn't that what we love about him? Hahnemann was effectively the Sounders' very own Ron Swanson, which this photo perfectly captures. Allow us to break down some of the more awesome elements in it:

hahnemann is awesome

We should point out that while this is not Hahnemann's house -- it is apparently owned by a friend of his and was featured on Treehouses of the Pacific NorthWest -- he did say that one of his retirement projects is to build one of his own. Maybe he'd like to host a Sounder at Heart viewing party?
