As I sit here on the couch watching ESPN's coverage of the MLS Cup Final, I can't help but grimace at this reality. I should've had to wake up early this morning with my mug of coffee and fireball ready for the drive to SODO hung over with my friends from our preparations the night before. I should be sitting in CenturyLink Field right now with a beer in my hand. Today should've been one of the biggest days of my entire life. Today should've been the biggest day of our lives.
Instead I sit here with my laptop and coffee while I watch Alexi Lalas get his nose brown in admiration of Landon Donovan and all his glory while Kasey Keller tries to separate himself from the stench. Galaxian tyranny continues on this day, but I sense Sounders liberation awaits in the future.
This was our greatest season, yet it just wasn't great enough. We have silverware yet not a crown. We're champions, but not THE Champions. Tomorrow is a new day and for the Sounders it has never been brighter. In 2014 we had an opportunity for a treble. In 2015 we have an opportunity for a quadruple. We can win the US Open Cup, Supporters' Shield, MLS Cup and the CONCACAF Champions League 2015/16 tournament. We've been in the position before, but something about this time around feels different. We should be proud of any achievements, yet we won't be satisfied until we have all the accolades. It's time to run through walls. #Quest4Quadruple starts now.
