As the song goes, the club was "Born in '74." This year Seattle Sounders FC will be celebrating that its 40th anniversary in several ways. Many of those were revealed in a press release today. All of the team's many activities can be tracked on its sub-site dedicated to the celebration.

Sounders' kits will be emblazoned with a patch emphasizing the 40-year history for eight matches. The first of those matches will be First Kick against Sporting Kansas City. All of the "full stadium" games and matches against San Jose will also have the badge.

"We are honored to celebrate the rich and storied tradition of soccer in Seattle," said Owner and General Manager Adrian Hanauer. "The Sounders have been a fabric of this community for four decades and we will pay tribute to its history and our fans all season long."

One of the others ways the organization will celebrate that history is through a banner at the entry tunnel for every home match throughout the season. The Pro Shop will also have merchandise along the 40th anniversary theme. Gameday and online content will also feature former players and coaches from the previous incarnations of the club.

Taylor Graham may have just hinted at one of those.

As the Vancouver Whitecaps are also having their 40th anniversary the full stadium match against them on October 10th will feature an even larger celebration of the history of the team.

Per the release, and a couple Alliance Council members who write for Sounder at Heart, the Council was a key in making this anniversary gain special recognition.
