Cue the inevitable WWE jokes

The prospect of MLS expansion has led to no shortage of interest from cities across North America. The newest city to express interest in future MLS expansion is Albequerque, New Mexico. A state lawmaker wants to attract a MLS expansion franchise at some point in the future, but not as the 23rd or 24th team the league has set for the end of the decade.

Chivas USA

According to a report from the Goat Parade, Chivas USA may soon be re-branded. A company associated with the MLS franchise applied for trademarks on two potential names and corresponding logos. Chivas USA owner Jorge Vergara later confirmed that re-branding is a possibility.

The Goat Parade also touched on Alexi Lalas' tweets on MLS rules involving loans and parent clubs, focusing on how the rules could affect Chivas USA.

Colorado Rapids

It looks like Colorado goalkeeper Matt Pickens could be headed to Norway to join Bob Bradley's Stabæk side. It's a mutually beneficial deal, because Pickens wants playing time, Bradley wants a reliable goalkeeper and Colorado wants to unload his $210,000+ cap hit, which is high for his current role as Clint Irwin's backup.

DC United

DC United is reportedly close to finalizing a deal that would make Leidos, Inc., which specializes in government contracts, the team's new shirt sponsor.

Houston Dynamo

Kofi Sarkodie won the "Outstanding Reaction" award at the inaugural ESPN Sport Science Awards for his double save against DC United last season.

LA Galaxy

Landon Donovan and Michael Bradley remember their early days in MLS and are excited by how much things have changed since they were teenagers in the early 2000's.

LAG Confidential takes a look at how the potential re-branding of Chivas USA could affect the Galaxy.

Last year Travis Bowen was playing for the Sounders in the pre-season while his brother Tristan Bowen was playing for Chivas USA. This year, Tristan Bowen is a Sounder and Travis Bowen is playing for LA Galaxy II. Former Sounder Daniel Steres also appeared in LA Galaxy II's first match.

New York Red Bulls

Tim Cahill sees the Supporters Shield as a better barometer of a successful season than the MLS Cup.

Philadelphia Union

USMNT midfielder and one of Philadelphia's newest DP's participated in a Reddit AMA yesterday. Topics covered included the seat cushion incident at TFC, his disallowed goal at the 2010 World Cup and the improving stature of MLS.

Portland Timbers

A "Providence Park" sign has replaced the old "Jeld-Wen Field" sign in Portland.

Sporting Kansas City

Echoing the sentiments of Landon Donovan and Michael Bradley, Graham Zusi is also impressed with how far the league has come in recent years. Zusi's team may represent the growth of the league better than any other MLS franchise, with such a stark contrast between the old KC Wizards and the current Sporting KC.

Toronto FC

For possibly the first time since the 2013 season ended, TFC was hit with some bad news yesterday. Bright Dike has reportedly suffered a torn achilles that will keep him out of action for the 2014 season, including the World Cup.

Vancouver Whitecaps

The Whitecaps are reportedly close to adding goalkeeper Paolo Tornaghi. Tornaghi spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons with Chicago.

Andre Lewis had about the best display of how not to do an Obaflip after scoring a goal in a pre-season game for the Whitecaps.

Jacksonville's expansion NASL team will officially unveil its name and logo in a press conference today, although it appears that the logo has already been leaked, bearing the name, "Jacksonville Armada".

Kitsap Pumas head coach James Ritchie resigned from his position with the team in order to join Jimmy Nielsen's coaching staff with Oklahoma City Energy FC. Kitsap's GM and assistant coach Andrew Chapman was named as Ritchie's replacement. This is just the latest Puget Sound connection at Oklahoma City's USL Pro club, after the team's color scheme turned out to be very similar to that of the Sounders and former Sounder Philip Lund landed with OKC.

England (-ish)

Cardiff City Stadium has been selected as the site for the 2014 UEFA Super Cup, which will be contested between the winners of this season's Champions League and Europa League.

Rumors emerged yesterday that Vince McMahon is interested in buying Newcastle United. Given recent performance, many Newcastle supporters may welcome this news in the hopes that McMahon will deal with changes in the front office in his own unique way.

Hamburg wasted no time announcing a replacement for recently fired manager Bert van Marwijk. Mirko Slomka, who was fired by Hannover earlier in the season, will attempt to rescue Hamburg from relegation with 15 matches remaining in the 2013/14 Bundesliga season.

Alessandro Del Piero will play against Juventus for the first time ever, as the A-League All-Stars are set to face Juventus in a friendly in August.

UEFA Champions League

SB Nation put together a beautiful preview of the Champions League Round of 16. Included in the preview for each matchup is a profile of each team, their key players, how they got to the round of 16 and some matchups to look for when they play.

One of the more interesting matchup is between Manchester City and Barcelona. Former Barcelona and current Man City holding midfielder isn't crazy about the idea of playing against the club that still means so much to him, but he is happy that his move to England allowed him to play a more fluid role than he was given at Camp Nou.

South America

Reddit user Rtbender posted a useful guide to the 2014 Copa Libertadores on the site's subreddit for Soccer (r/soccer).

World Cup

Mexico's national team will play several warmup matches on US soil prior to the World Cup. One of those will be against Portugal at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

United States

Brek Shea is expected to return to action for Barnsley this week after suffering from a stomach virus.

Jonathan Spector was slated to return as well for Birmingham's reserves yesterday.

Sacha Kljestan, Danny Williams and Terrence Boyd all managed to score for their respective clubs over the weekend.

Despite the relative success of American players in the top leagues in Europe, Michael Bradley thinks Americans still have a ways to go in terms of challenging the perception that they aren't as good as players from other countries.

Omar Gonzalez and Michael Bradley appeared on Good Morning America yesterday promoting ESPN's coverage of the 2014 World Cup.
