There was little doubt, but it is now confirmed via both Seattle Sounders FC and the New York Cosmos that defender Jimmy Ockford will be on a year long loan to the NASL club. Ockford played during today's 1-1 draw and is expected to join Giovanni Savarese's side soon.
"James is a promising young defender who will provide competition and depth on our back line," Cosmos head coach Savarese said via press release.
The Cosmos head to the U.A.E. in early March for preseason preparation in defense of their 2013 NASL title. During that stretch Ockford will be pushing for playing time against former MLS players like Hunter Freeman and Carlos Mendes as well as international talents like Rovérsio, as well as other less known players.
Ockford will not be occupying a 30-man roster spot per a Sounders FC spokesperson. This leaves the club with four open roster spots at this time.
