Major Link Soccer: Tyrone Marshall a PDL manager

The former Sounders defender gets his first head coaching job.

Levy Films is at it again. This time the focus of Levy's distinctive style is the Seattle Reign in a 22 minute documentary called #LetItReign, including interviews with players and footage from training and the final match of the 2013 season.

Sounders Women released their 2014 W-League schedule that includes 4 exhibition games against college soccer teams from around the state.


According to a report in Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, Erick Thohir is thinking about selling his majority stake in DC United to help cover some of Inter Milan's debts. Despite the fact that Thohir personally guaranteed Inter's €200 million debts when he purchased a majority stake in the club, Washington Post reporter Steven Goff described the report as "not accurate".

MLS Fantasy Soccer is back in 2014. One major change from last year is that you are now given $120 million to create a team of 18 players. You are also now allowed to select as many as 4 players from each team. There are four unlimited transfer rounds this year: round 1, round 11, round 15 and round 16. Transfers in all other rounds are capped at 2.

In an interview with City TV, Jason Kreis talked about how he is adjusted to life in England, as he prepares for the 2015 MLS season with New York City FC. He revealed that NYCFC will be allowed to take four Manchester City players on loan and that he is looking at Man City's youth system for players that might fit his system and make an impact in MLS.

Phil Rawlins, owner and president of Orlando City SC, has resigned from the Stoke City Board of Directors and sold his shares in the club in order to focus on getting Orlando City ready for its inaugural MLS season next year. Meanwhile, Orlando City announced El Salvador national team captain Darwin Ceren as its third signing for the MLS team. Ceren will join the team for the 2014 USL Pro season, in addition to the 2015 MLS season.

Toronto FC president Tim Leiweke mentioned that the team could sign a "top 10" goalkeeper on loan until the World Cup. He mentioned that the keeper is on a team fighting relegation that wants to improve his chances of making a World Cup roster.

Chivas USA appears to be close to signing 27 year-old English striker Luke Moore. Moore is currently a free agent, but most recently played for Elazığspor in the Turkish Super League after spending his entire career in the English Premier League and Championship with Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Derby County and Swansea City.

The LA Galaxy agreed to a multi-year contract extension with head coach Bruce Arena. After the contract extension was official, the Galaxy noted that Arena's coaching tree includes some noteworthy names, including several current MLS head coaches, a couple of coaches with experience managing clubs in Europe and a manager of two national teams.

After the official announcement that Miami will get a MLS expansion team, Marcelo Claure expressed his hope that the league would soon allow teams to sign a fourth Designated Player, although he admitted that MLS has made him no promises that it will do so.

It didn't take long for Orlando and Miami to start taking shots at each other, hinting at a future in-state rivalry in Florida.

US Soccer

Hoffenheim manager Markus Gisdol revealed yesterday that USMNT fullback/wide midfielder Fabian Johnson will not return to the club next season. With his contract expiring at the end of the current season, Johnson told the club that he won't sign a new deal.

Juan Agudelo didn't waste much time getting his first goal in Europe, scoring in his second start with Utrecht. Agudelo had previously contributed an assist in his first start with the team.

After Michael Bradley wore the captain's armband in a pre-season match for Toronto FC, momentum has started to gather for him to receive the same honor for the USMNT.

SportsCenter aired a teaser of a story about Nick Pugliese, an American pro soccer player who plays for a club in Kabul, Afghanistan. The full report will air on Sunday morning on the 7:00 AM edition of SportsCenter on ESPN.


USL Pro's Dayton Dutch Lions signed a 3 year sponsorship deal with Nike that will also cover the club's W-League, PDL and youth teams.

Former Sounders defender Tyrone Marshall has been named the new head coach of the River City Rovers of the Great Lakes Division in PDL. The team is located in Louisville, Kentucky, which is about 100 miles from Lindsey Wilson College, Marshall's alma mater, where he returned after retiring in 2012 to finish his degree and serve as a graduate assistant to the men's soccer team.

After the LA Galaxy II joined USL Pro for the 2014 season, it was apparently time for a change at LA's existing USL Pro team, the LA Blues. Having struggled to draw many fans to matches in the club's first three seasons, it has relocated to UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium and re-branded itself as Orange County Blues FC.

Copa Libertadores

ESPN FC's Tim Vickery wrote yesterday that the Copa Libertadores, widely regarded as the top continental club competition outside of Europe, should be required viewing for soccer fans.

World Cup

The Opening Ceremony of the winter Olympic games this morning (or tonight, if you watch it on NBC's tape delay) will give us a bit of a glimpse into one of the stadia that will be used for the 2018 World Cup. Sochi's Fisht Stadium, where the Opening Ceremony will be held, will also be one of the 11 Russian stadia used for the World Cup.
