Defensive issues are apparent. They showed up in deep fouls and early goals by FC Dallas. At the end of the first half the Frisco side held a one goal lead after scoring from David Texiera and Michel. Clint Dempsey had only scored once at that point. His 22nd minute free kick goal is worthy of awards. But Dallas owned the first half.
There was a second half. Clint Dempsey owned that. As 11 men from a Dallas 'burb took charge in the first 45, Clint declared himself Texas' son and Seattle's own. Clint scored a couple on his own and forced an own goal from Stephen Keel. Honestly, it was probably because Keel was tired. If he didn't knock that in Oba would have finished it. There were only 15 minutes left.
Seattle couldn't win on the road with 15 minutes left against the top team in the league, could they?
YES. THEY. COULD.
They did.
It may only be because of Clint Dempsey. He's scored 5 goals in the past two games (and an odd assist on an own goal), six in his last three and seven in his last five regular-season appearances.
At the 84th minute Captain America, our Captain, slipped the ball wide to Chad Barrett, who read the play and immediately fed it back to Clint. Clint finished the shot. Clint finishes shots.
Sigi Schmid needs to fix the issues regarding space. Somehow people are getting behind Alonso. They are getting behind Yedlin. Dallas exploited that. They still lost.
Seattle wins on the road. The walls are being built at home.
