Chivas USA took an early lead on a penalty kick, but as seems to happen of late Clint Dempsey and Seattle Sounders FC recovered and won. During the three-match road trip the Rave Green came back and won twice, drew once and showed that a road trip is just another chance at points.
Erick Torres buried the penalty kick in the fifth minute after Osvaldo Alonso's double-tackle earned the Goats a chance from the spot.
From that point on Seattle owned possession. It took them time to turn possession into goals. The first goal will not go down as set-piece success it was the service of Marco Pappa, the creativity of Clint Dempsey and the "just do it" of Lamar Neagle that leveled the sides.
For dozens of minutes after the 1-1 leveling Oba and Clint would look to spring each other. The touches were just off. They looked to each other, but neither converted the near chances or the opportunities.
At the 73rd minute Marco Delgado leveled the battered Gonzalo Pineda. The red card against Delgado gave Sounders FC another advantage.
Seattle's ownership of the ball and the flow of the game was confirmed. Continual choppy play would not stop them.
Oba's 81st minute goal from a Dempsey feed proved the gamewinner.
The family scored. Flips happened.
Sigi Schmid's Sounders picked up seven points on a tough road trip. It was only pretty in brief moments. It was often ugly. The defense bent. Goals against happened.
In the end the offense took over. An offense lead by Oba and Clint, but more appropriately a family.
Seattle is now 2nd in the West, 2nd in the Shield.
