Seattle Reign midfielder Jess Fishlock was named the player of the year by both the media and the players for her role in leading the Melbourne Victory to Australia's W-League title this past season.

The Seattle Sounders organization completed the move into its new location in Pioneer Square yesterday, as business operations are set to split off from the Seahawks organization tomorrow.

The partnership between Obafemi Martins and Clint Dempsey is widely considered to be the driving force behind the team's current form that has the team at the top of the league table, but as teams attempt to contain the threats from Seattle's attacking DP's, Lamar Neagle has quietly compiled 3 goals and 3 assists, which is the best production in MLS from a wide midfielder. All 3 of his goals have been the first goal scored by the Sounders in winning efforts.

The dominating performance by the Sounders was enough for Soccer By Ives to name Seattle its MLS Team of the Week.

This Saturday night's match between the Sounders and the Philadelphia Union is eligible for MLS Stream of the Week. The other candidates are Chicago vs. Real Salt Lake, Colorado vs. LA Galaxy, Chivas USA vs. Houston, and Portland vs. DC United.

Obafemi Martins is again nominated for MLS Goal of the Week. Clint Dempsey and Sigi Schmid are again honored in MLS Team of the Week, with Martins included on the bench.

Kasey Keller was cited in a Jeff Carlisle piece on the polarizing nature of Landon Donovan on ESPN FC:

I see no reason, with Landon's talent, why he couldn't have done exactly what he did with the Galaxy at a great club in Europe. But that was his choice, and that's the part people forget sometimes. They take personal ownership in their sports heroes and they want to see them do particular things.

The San Jose Earthquakes will host current La Liga leader and UEFA Champions League semi-finalist Atlético Madrid in a friendly at Candlestick Park in San Francisco on July 27th. Atlético will go on to play Club América at Azteca Stadium on July 30th. It's also noteworthy that less than a week after facing the best team in Spain at the former stadium of the San Francisco 49ers, San Jose will face what is currently the best team in MLS in the Seattle Sounders at the new stadium of the 49ers on August 2nd.

After suffering a 4-1 loss to the Sounders in Seattle last weekend, Pablo Mastroeni's diamond midfield probably needs a bit more on the attacking end in order to be effective in the future. Rapids announcer Richard Fleming sees the result as a wake-up call for the team.

When Dominic Oduro entered the match for Columbus in the 68th minute against New York, he sparked quite a bit of discussion on Twitter, but not for his impact on the game. This time, people were talking about the slices of pizza on both sides of his head.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is reportedly considering an offer from the LA Galaxy, in addition to offers from Galatasaray, Besiktas, and Qatar's Al Gharafa, although he would prefer to stay with Manchester United.

The Bronx's borough president may require some convincing that a soccer stadium is in the best interest of the Bronx. This comes 11 months after he wrote Don Garber, claiming enthusiasm for soccer in his borough.

There are a few Sounders/Seattle connections in this week's Save of the Week candidates. Two of the nominees were briefly acquired by the Sounders before being traded: Steve Clark of the Columbus Crew was nominated twice, along with Chris Seitz of FC Dallas. Gig Harbor native Tally Hall is also nominated.

New York Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips narrowly edged Clint Dempsey in MLS Player of the Week voting 6-5, behind his hat trick against Houston and his goal against Columbus.

"Atlanta Phoenix" seems to be an early favorite among fans for the name of Atlanta's MLS expansion franchise.

Carli Lloyd has been suspended for 2 games for using excessive force in Western New York's match against the Chicago Red Stars.

Alessandro Del Piero announced on his website that he is leaving Sydney FC after 2 years in Australia. He has already been linked with DC United, and we should probably expect to see more rumors of him moving to MLS in the coming weeks.

Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal is reportedly hoping to finalize his deal to become the next manager at Manchester United sometime this week. Interim manager Ryan Giggs may be offered a role as an assistant coach under van Gaal. Giggs was praised by United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaardwho went as far as comparing him to Pep Guardiola.

Leicester City striker Kevin Phillips announced that he will retire after the conclusion of the 2013/14 season. Phillips remains the only English player to win the European Golden Boot award -- a feat accomplished when he scored 30 goals for Sunderland in the 1999/2000 season. Phillips has become a promotion specialist, helping 4 teams win promotion to the Premier League in the past 7 years. He will remain with Leicester City as a coach.

In browsing the front page of Sounder at Heart, you may have noticed a feature about the Istanbul Derby. I would recommend reading it when you have a decent amount of time to kill, as it is very much a long form piece. Fenerbahçe, one of the teams involved in the Istanbul Derby, won Turkey's league title in front of a crowd consisting only of 50,000 women and children. Adult males were not allowed in the stadium due to concerns over violence, but those that weren't allowed into the stadium managed to celebrate in the streets.
