MLS Week 5 Standings, Stats

One of the problems with traveling to an away match is trying to catch up on the week's action. Instead of that here are some fancy tables. It's about 14% of the season and things are looking decent for Sounders FC.

Seattle Sounders FC are now 5th in the Western Conference and 8th in the Supporters' Shield race. These are handy places to be. They are within striking distance, and unlike Chicago, New York, Portland, Montreal and San Jose they don't have zeroes in their win column.

Here are the conference standings as per MLSSoccer.com (that means not by PPM, but by the tie-breakers per MLS rules);

One of the intriguing things that can start to happen is that we can start seeing what type of team Sounders FC is. That team is intriguing. It plays through the middle, avoids long balls and has a couple great players in the attack. The first table is from WhoScored.com.

Clint Dempsey is tied for 1st in goals coring (Sanchez, Torres). That's true even if you remove penalties from the leader board he is still tied for first (Bruin, Watson, Defoe). Clint is only 2nd in Goals per 90 among players with at least one start.

Obafemi Martins is in first for assists. He's only 16th for key passes. Both have two big chances created, good for second in the early season.
