The cold, hard fact is that there's a pretty good chance you'll never see another goal quite like Obafemi Martins' strike from Saturday. Just the timing, balance and skill it takes to take a half volley from that angle at a full run while shielding defender is pretty impossible to imagine trying, let alone pulling off. In my mind, there's no doubt it's a Goal of the Year candidate, let alone a Goal of the Week winner.
As luck were to have it, though, there's at least one more stunning goal this week, putting Martins' run at Goal of the Year in jeopardy before it really even gets started. Federico Higuain's chip is extremely impressive, I must admit. But you've seen ones quite like it before and will probably see them again, maybe even pulled off by Higuain, who seems to have a knack for this stuff.
But that's the thing. As much as Higuain's chip may have been more about pure skill and have less influence of luck, Martins' is just unique. Do the right thing and vote for him here.
