MLS Gamethread: Week 12

Will Landon Donovan use his World Cup snub as motivation to enter the MLS record books?

SURPRISE! We've got FRIDAY GAMES! For the first time this season, MLS is utilizing the sixth day of the calendar week to bring us a game to enjoy after work/school/secret second family time. It will be good practice for us to prepare for next year's Fri-daily Univision broadcasts, and it is a pretty good one: Sporting KC vs Toronto FC.

  • The home team will always be the one named first.
  • Bold parenthesis indicate where to find the match in question.
  • Normal parenthesis are my match picks.
  • All times are Pacific Daylight Time.
  • Clicking on the team name will lead you to that team's SB Nation blog, where you can get a more in-depth look at lineups and match-ups.
  • Has anyone noticed that this space always has a different guideline?
  • Let me know if there are things you'd like to see change in our/my coverage. We may be omnipotent, but we also like to throw a few wrenches in to screw with you gals and guys.

Friday

5:30PM Sporting KC-Toronto FC (KC) (MLS Free Stream) (Univision)

Saturday

4:00PM New York Red Bulls-Portland Timbers (Draw) (Root)

4:30PM Columbus Crew-Chicago Fire (CHI)

4:30PM New England Revolution-DC United (NE)

6:00PM Colorado Rapids-Montreal Impact (Draw)

6:30PM Real Salt Lake-FC Dallas (Draw)

Sunday

5:00PM LA Galaxy-Philadelphia Union (LA) (Univision)

7:30PM San Jose Earthquakes-Houston Dynamo (Draw)

GAME OF THE WEEK

The game of the week would totally be the Sounders visiting the Whitecaps this weekend, because none of the rest of these look all that fun. Blowouts are expected by the MLS crew, with only our match seeing predictions of both teams winning. One match that may be better than expected is DC going into Gillette Stadium. Eddie Johnson will be coming in with a full head of stem as he did a week ago in scoring his first goal of the year. After losing their first two matches of the year, DC has only lost once since. They topped an admittedly depleted Houston team midweek without Johnson's services. The Revolution have scored ten goals in their last two games, but that pace simply won't continue. United may not win, but they'll make a game out of it.
