Shea joined Orlando City yesterday for a 10-day training stint.

Could Shea return to MLS next year?

The Sounders received a bit of a double whammy when PRO announced this weekend's referee assignments. Not only will Ricardo Salazar head the officiating crew on Saturday, but the fourth official who sent off Marcus Hahnemann from the bench last year will be Salazar's fourth official.

In case you missed it, Sounders loanee Jimmy Ockford scored the winning goal for the New York Cosmos in their 2-0 win over the Brooklyn Italians in the third round of the US Open Cup. The Cosmos will host the New York Red Bulls in the fourth round, making this the second straight year Ockford will face the Red Bulls in the Open Cup. He and Sounders first round draft pick Damion Lowe faced the Red Bulls while playing for PDL side Reading United last season.

District of Columbia mayor Vincent Gray is beginning his attempt to convince the DC city council to support the public funding necessary for the DC United stadium at Buzzard Point to become a reality. The biggest issues appear to be how the District will come up with the money and whether it will be part of the 2015 budget.

In Miami, David Beckham's newest preferred site for a stadium isn't without its critics -- former Miami mayor Manny Diaz chief among them.

With Univision playing a key role in the newest MLS TV deal, Mike Gastineau believes that we will start to see more Mexican players making their way to MLS. The network will cross-promote its Liga MX coverage with its MLS coverage, which is important, since Liga MX is by far the most watched soccer league on TV in the US. Sounders midfielder Gonzalo Pineda has had conversations with Liga MX players curious about what it's like to play in MLS.

A group of local residents is suing New York City FC, Manhattanville College, and the town of Purchase, New York over plans to build a practice facility for the club on the campus of Manhattanville College. The club has promised to give the facility to the college once the lease expires, but some locals fear that promise may be broken.

With Brek Shea training with Orlando City's USL Pro club, Big D Soccer wonders if he'll wind up there for the 2015 MLS season, noting Orlando City president Phil Rawlins' 14-year relationship with Stoke City.

At least one player who was on a UEFA Champions League winning Barcelona team could play in MLS next season, as a report in Spain claims that David Villa will sign a 3 year deal with NYCFC. Xavi, his former teammate at Barcelona, could be the next player to sign with City FC.

The red card Eddie Johnson received last weekend has been rescinded by the MLS Disciplinary Committee Independent Review Panel. This is huge for DC United, who were looking at missing EJ for at least 2 matches.

Chivas USA's announced attendance in the match against Portland on Wednesday night was pretty low:

CONCACAF Champions League

The MLS teams that will participate in 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League learned who they will face in the group stage of the competition. Sporting Kansas City's Group 2 opponents are Saprissa (Costa Rica) and Real Esteli (Nicaragua). In Group 3, the New York Red Bulls will face either the Montreal Impact or Toronto FC, in addition to Deportivo FAS (El Salvador). DC United will meet Tauro FC (Panama) and Waterhouse FC (Jamaica) in Group 4. In Group 5, the Portland Timbers drew CD Olimpia (Honduras) and Alpha United (Guyana).

Lamar Hunt US Open Cup

The field for the fourth round of the 2014 US Open Cup is set, with 16 MLS teams, 6 NASL teams, 7 USL Pro teams, 2 PDL teams, and 1 USASA team involved. Seattle is one of 10 MLS teams hosting in the fourth round, but it is also playing against the lowest remaining team in the American soccer pyramid, as PSA Elite plays in the United States Adult Soccer Association.

For the second time this season, a NWSL team will take part in a double header with its local MLS team. Unlike the Chicago double header, this one won't involve a MLS match. The Houston Dynamo has paired its fourth round US Open Cup match against the Laredo Heat with the Houston Dash match against the Western New York Flash.

US Soccer

Before we get too out of hand penciling Julian Green, John Anthony Brooks, and DeAndre Yedlin in the 2018 World Cup roster, we should probably keep in mind ESPN's projected 2014 World Cup starting lineups from the past 4 years.

A couple of United States players based in Germany will be switching Bundesliga clubs this summer. Fabian Johnson has already agreed to join Gladbach from Hoffenheim. Now it appears that Tim Chandler could leave relegated Nuremberg in favor of re-joining Eintracht Frankfurt, where he played for the club's youth academy.

No American player was chosen in ESPN FC's list of the top 50 players at the World Cup.

The Onion has a fake news story making light of the reaction of many US fans to Landon Donovan being cut from the World Cup roster.

In case you didn't get enough of Mix Diskerud the other night, Top Drawer Soccer has you covered:

A few of Germany's key players who are recovering from injury have shown signs of progress recently.

Costa Rica and Real Salt Lake forward Alvaro Saborío will miss at least 3 months with a fractured bone in his foot.

The USMNT's next pre-World Cup opponent was in action yesterday, as Turkey defeated Honduras 2-0 at RFK Stadium.

Arsenal fullback Bacary Sagna announced that he is leaving the club after being unsatisfied with the direction contract negotiations went. He has previously been linked with a move to Manchester City.

Shelley Kerr, Laura Harvey's successor as manager at Arsenal, announced her resignation ahead of this weekend's FA Cup Final against Everton. The announcement came as a surprise to her players, even though the team currently sits at the bottom of the Women's Super League table.

The identity of the potential new owner of Aston Villa has been revealed. His name is Tevfik Arif, a real estate developer based in New York.

Parma's appeal of its exclusion from Europa League was denied yesterday. As a result of the decision, Torino will play in Europa League.
