The MLS Golden Boot race is off to quite a start. About a third of the way through the season, three players are on pace to score 20 goals. If that actually comes to fruition, it would mark just the third time in the league's 18 seasons that three players have managed that feat in the same year. Of course, one of the other times was last year.
Clint Dempsey is, of course, currently leading the league with eight goals and he's only played in seven matches. It would be remarkable for him to keep up that pace, but he'd break the MLS single-season record with just 24 games played.
Still, the MLSsoccer.com editors don't seem to think he's the favorite to win the scoring title. They tab Robbie Keane as the man to beat. Considering Obafemi Martins is already on four goals and is unlikely to miss games due to the World Cup -- the way both Keane and Dempsey are -- he might be worth a shout as well.
