Six Reign Players Called Up To National Teams

The Reign scatter to the four winds for a brief international break before the showdown with the Thorns this weekend.

Eight of the twenty players on the Seattle Reign roster are regulars on their respective national teams, so it's no surprise that the team is significantly affected when international match days arrive.

For the US friendly against Canada on Thursday, Hope Solo, Sydney Leroux, and Stephanie Cox have been called up for the US and Carmelina Moscato for Canada. Moscato has been injured for the Reign but is apparently healthy enough to at least make the bench for the Canadians. Megan Rapinoe no doubt would have been called up as well but for the foot injury she's still dealing with.

Nahomi Kawasumi has been called up to Japan for the Women's Asia Cup, which is a single tournament that runs from the 14th to the final on the 25th. And you'd expect Japan to go deep into the tournament, which makes the final a reasonable expectation. This year's edition also serves as the qualifier for the 2015 World Cup, so this is an important tournament for Japan, who are the defending World Cup champions.

And finally Jess Fishlock will play for Wales in a UEFA World Cup qualifying match against Montenegro, also on Thursday. Wales are currently second in the group behind the undefeated English, so still have a decent shot at qualifying for their first ever World Cup.

All of the players other than Kawasumi are expected to rejoin the Reign before their highly anticipated match against Portland on Saturday.
