World Cup 2014 Open Thread: Germany v Portugal, Iran v Nigeria

What an exhausting weekend. At least there are only two games in the Open Thread today... what's that? The USA plays too? Yep, World Cup month is crazy.

When Clint Dempsey and DeAndre Yedlin play at 3 PM there will be a new post just for that. Maybe a couple new posts even. This is the post dedicated to Germany v Portugal and Iran v Nigeria.

Let's catch up on what happened Sunday.

Switzerland became the first UEFA side to beat a CONMEBOL side in this World Cup when they scored about as late as you can score to win 2-1. This makes them nearly as good as Costa Rica, as the Ticos beat Uruguay on Saturday.

Honduras didn't do CONCACAF proud though. They got crushed while being very Honduran soccer. Benzema has either a brace or a hat trick depending on if the service knows how to read FIFA rules.

Argentina took advantage of an early own goal and looked to cruise past Bosnia-Herzogevenia after Messi scored. BiH got a goal from Vedad Ibisevic (the former SLU Billiken) and kept it a contest.

GROUP F 16 JUN, 2014 - Noon - ESPN IRAN VS

Germany and Portugal is a vital game for US fans. It lets you scout the other two Group G opponents while also telling the Americans how many points they need in their three matches. It will be interesting to see how Ronaldo looks as he clearly isn't at full health right now.

Nigeria keeps ignoring Oba, so go Iran. I also happen to like LB/LM Hajsafi, so I'll be watching that one at Capitol Cider as we prepare for the 1st Sounder at Heart viewing party of the World Cup.

This is your "Not Yet USMNT" open thread.
