World Cup 2014 Open Thread: Brazil v Chile, Colombia v Uruguay

It's a CONMEBOL Saturday with ABC carrying both the 9 AM and 1 PM matches. Upstarts Colombia try to beat the Suarez-less Uruguay and hosts Brazil take it to the attack-at-all-costs Chile.

9 AM Brazil v Chile - ABC

Nothing beats a breakfast like the one served alongside the world's most beautiful soccer nation. Though they started off the tourney a little slow, but now it is time for Brazil to shine. The Neymar powered Seleção have the weight of a nation on them. They should win today, but that doesn't mean there is no reason to watch. Former (current?) MLS player Cesar is in goal. No, that's not why you should watch. You watch because it is Brazil.

1 PM Colombia v Uruguay - ABC

Colombia advanced so tellingly that in their final Group Stage match they made a keeper sub just to honor longtime netminder and former MLSer Faryd Mondragon. Now they move on to a match that is clouded by Uruguay losing its best player. This forces the world's smallest great footballing nation into playing a rather rudimentary longball powered 4-4-2. Colombia knows what it is like to lose their star, their's went down prior to the tournament, and they were once written off. At the end of today they should advance and face the kings of CONMEBOL.
