World Cup 2014 Open Thread: Netherlands v Mexico, Greece v Costa Rica

ESPN has all your World Cup action in today's trial of CONCACAF.

Robert Cianflone

The Netherlands is expected to beat Mexico. The Dutch have looked like one of the strongest sides in this World Cup and they haven't had typical UEFA in South America troubles. For Mexico this is their chance to do something they've never done outside of their own nation, advance to the quarterfinals. The bonus to this one is that you get to watch former MLS player Rafa Marquez not be awful and the current Mexican coach is probably the most entertaining coach in the world.

Costa Rica's surprise run could easily continue. All they have to do is score against Greece. Not that that is easy, it's just that Greece isn't great at the scoring thing. The ticos are already making history, but for those that think CONCACAF deserves an assured rather than half-spot a win today would turn some heads. The doubters will respond pointing out that it's "just Greece" like it was "just England, just Italy and just Uruguay." Oh, hi MLSers!

This is Sunday's World Cup Open Thread
