World Cup 2014 Open Thread: France v Nigeria, Germany v Algeria

Two African nations advanced to the Round of 16 in the same tournament for the first time. Both likely go home today.

France is not having the off-pitch mental issues that doomed them in 2010. They may be the best of the European sides left based on their performances so far. In a bracket without teams from the Americas their path seems simple - Nigeria and then Germany. Nigeria is happy to be here so far, but they have issues with receiving their bonus pay. Both have former greats sitting in the USA watching as their nations moving on. Expect France to win.

Algeria has the opportunity for sporting vengeance. Once upon a time, back in 1982, Germany colluded in order to keep the Foxes out of the knockouts. Now, advancing further than ever the Algerians get the opportunity to exact revenge. Germany can not afford to look ahead as Algeria does have some offense. The former champions are clear favorites.
