World Cup 2014 Open Thread: Argentina v Switzerland

It is an appetizer made with a divine ingredient, but still merely the start to an amazing day.

Ronald Martinez

9 AM - ESPN

Simply extraordinary, Lionel Messi takes the stage today in his, and Argentina's quest for the World Cup. But it will take more than just a single man. Higuain can be that second. If he relieves the pressure that will ultimately come than the Swiss will not be able to handle the power of Messi.

Switzerland's defense looked solid against the minnows, but struggled when facing France. They will face as strong a test today in a stadium that will essentially be a home game. The Neutrals' (that's their nickname, right?) run should end today in what promises to be another tight affair.

In the end though the early match is the appetizer. It prepares us for the main course. Several members of Sounder at Heart staff will be at the Sounders/AOSeattle event at the CenturyLink Events Center. We look forward to seeing you, and victory, mostly victory.
