Clint Dempsey and DeAndre Yedlin were part of the 10 MLS All Stars selected via fan vote. It is Yedlin's second straight appearance and Dempsey's third overall. Obafemi Martins won selection via the EA Sports FIFA '14 route as he was the MLS forward who scored the most goals during a select period of time.
Seattle Sounders FC has never had less than two All Stars. With Seattle dominating the standings there is a strong chance that they get another named All Star or two. Chad Marshall and Osvaldo Alonso would likely be on a short list of potential players.
The MLS All Star XI is not the starting XI, as that will be determined by Coach Caleb Porter. MLS Commissioner Don Garber (2 selections) and Porter (7) will name the rest of the gameday roster on July 19th. The Portland coach will choose his starting XI from those 20 players.
The rest of the All Star XI is a who's who of American soccer greatness with a strong influence from the US roster at the 2014 World Cup. Thierry Henry and Landon Donovan join Martins as the only players that didn't play in Brazil, but like Martins were at the 2010 World Cup.
Other Americans selected are Matt Besler, Graham Zusi, Kyle Beckerman, Nick Rimando, Omar Gonzalez and Michael Bradley. Yes, that means that the team would play in a really misshapen 3-4-3 if it was a starting XI, so it's not.
Fourteen of Bayern Munich's players were at the 2014 World Cup with seven of those winning the title for Germany.
