Fabio Pereira released by Sounders FC

Despite having roster space it seems that Seattle Sounders FC is moving on from Fabio Pereira.

Mike Russell

UPDATE: Sounders have confirmed that Pereira has been waived.

The Brazilian midfielder came via the University of Michigan. Since signing his rookie contract Fabio Pereira played no minutes in MLS and only 27 minutes in one appearance in the US  Open Cup. Pereira tweeted today that he is no longer with the team.

With the release of Fabio Seattle Sounders FC open up a roster spot and an international slot. This puts them at three roster spaces that are currently open. Two of those would be taken if Injured List players return (Lowe and Parsemain). The team also now has two international slots open.

Pereira was deep depth in the central midfield. He is now free to sign with any team. His is another case that shows the need for an affiliate or USL PRO team so that young players that are not yet First Team ready can get playing time and possibly develop into future contributors.

The team is currently practicing at Starfire in the heavy rain and will likely have confirmation of the move when it is over.

Once and Always a Sounder.
