World Cup 2014 Open Thread: France v Germany, Brazil v Colombia

There's nothing quite like some soccer to accompany your Independence Day. Today's matches start with two European powers on ESPN2 and end with World Cup hosts versus a South American upstart on ESPN.

9 AM - ESPN2

If you watch ESPN rather than ESPN2 you're going to see Wimbledon, so that would be odd. Click on over to the deuce to see France v Germany. Both sides have the talent to put up goals, but this one looks more likely to be another defensive contest in the knockout rounds. Germany is at a slight disadvantage due to their going to extra time to beat Algeria. PREVIEW

1 PM - ESPN

Hosts Brazil take on Colombia in the afternoon game. This one has MLS connections, which is always a little bit of fun. There's also the James and Neymar scoring contest at hand, and that's a lot of fun. Both teams like to get out in the attack and are not known for the defense. If you only watch one World Cup match today because of parades, grills, fireworks (always safely), etc this would be the one to watch. PREVIEW.

This is your ooohh eee ahhhh World Cup open thread.
