Major Link Soccer: Jermaine Jones to skip allocation, join the Fire?

USWNT vs. Mexico double header! Earthquakes sign an Argentinian DP. The All-Star Game is a thing that's happening.

Prepare your beverage cabinets.  It appears that Chad Marshall may not be back for this Saturday's match, which is a not-insurmountable-but-disturbing setback when it comes to the Sounders lineup.  Not saying, but just saying that the Sounders have not won without the Air Marshall in attendance.

Sean Okoli is looking forward to the Homegrown Game, and isn't sweating his limited playing time with the Sounders first team.  Some nice quotes from Okoli and Sigi Schmid at

Major League Soccer

The San Jose Earthquakes have made a major move, signing their third-ever Designated Player, Matias Perez Garcia, to a DP deal.  The 5-foot, 5-inch Argentine is 29 years old and offers a creative, attacking option for San Jose.  Center Line Soccer reacts here.

Hey, the MLS All Star game is happening!  If you are going to head to Portland for the festivities, be sure to to check out this list of the upcoming activities (including multiple "cycling events") in the Rose City over the next few days.

Alexi Lalas has stirred the Jermaine Jones rumor pot, suggesting that the 32 year old could join the Chicago Fire directly (bypassing the allocation order) for a contract tipping the scales at around $3 million a year.

Real Salt Lake's Olmes Garcia's penchant for going down easily may have reached the classic "boy who cried wolf moment" against the New York Red Bulls. We'll see how the disciplinary committee responds.  As for Brad Evans, the explanation was short and sweet:

What kind of magic can the LA Galaxy pull to land Sacha Kljestan?  A combination-loan-allocation-money-extended-contract-... MLS-gonna-MLS?  Either way, here are the details.

Did Thierry Henry call Ronaldinho to convince him to join the Red Bulls? (Again, that $3 million number is in play)

Bayern Munich head into the MLS All-Star Game with a narrow victory over Chivas de Guadalajara.  USMNT newbie/hero Julian Green was on the bench.

US Soccer

The US Women's National Team will face Mexico twice in a week, September 13 (venue TBD) and September 18 (Rochester, NY), in the final warmup for the CONCACAF Women's Championship.

The USMNT's first home match since the World Cup should be on September 9 vs. Colombia in San Antonio.  2018 BEGINS NOW.

World Soccer

The outbreak of Ebola virus in West Africa has affected Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.  The Seychelles were forced to forfeit their second-round match after players and staff from Sierra Leone were barred from entering the country due to the possible health risks.  The Seychelles could face sanctions for their actions, despite the possible danger they cited.

Ok, this occurred in the US, but the Michigan man (Bassel Abdul-Amir Saad) who allegedly punched a referee (who later died) will stand trial for murder, not manslaughter, after his latest court appearance. According to judge Kathleen McCann, Saad should have known the punch could be deadly.
