The comfortable confines of Starfire Stadium could feature two of Seattle Sounders FC's best players as Sigi Schmid indicates that DeAndre Yedlin's transfer situation should be worked out and that Obafemi Martins' red card will keep him out of MLS play.
After Monday's practice Sigi answered a question about Yedlin's availability for the Wednesday night game. "We're hoping everything gets clarified, but we don't know yet," he said. DeAndre's first match after the World Cup was at his former Academy stadium against the Portland Timbers in the Open Cup.
With Obafemi Martins earning two yellows he is forced to sit out the weekend match against Real Salt Lake. "He can't play next Saturday so his chance of getting minutes on Wednesday are great," Schmid told the media late Sunday night.
Those two key cogs should bolster a lineup that is healthy, but may have some concerns due to the short rest available between a late Sunday night game and the midweek Open Cup match (the Fire also played Sunday). Some squad rotation should be expected just because of the nature of Stafire.
"You put the best team on the field that you can. You've got to look at people's physical situation, look at rotations that maybe make sense to you and try to get the best team on the field to win the game," Sigi told the media Monday. "You have to make sure that you have options off the bench that you can go to in case it turns into a 120 minute game."
The only health concerns are Damion Lowe and Kevin Parsemain (both remain on the DL). The non-starters played a small-sided game while the players from the Sunday win were in recovery mode.
