The U.S. Open Cup final will be played on Sept. 16 at PPL Park, a U.S. Soccer spokesperson has confirmed. While that may seem like an obvious statement, being as the date was supposedly set as soon as the Philadelphia Union clinched their spot on Tuesday.
But confusion started to brew sometime this morning when ECS travel coordinators were apparently told by the Union that the date may be changed.
Rumblings of a date change. Hold tight everybody. Keep those flights flexible.— ECS Travel Monkeys (@ECSTravelMonkey) August 14, 2014
Who or why the date suddenly became uncertain was not entirely clear. The game comes amidst a busy stretch for the Sounders, who will end up playing five matches between Sept. 12-27. The Union have four games scheduled between Sept. 13-27. The other dates that had originally been mentioned as possibilities were Sept. 17 and Oct. 1. The Union have a game scheduled for Oct. 2, meaning the Sept. 17 was the day the final would have likely been moved to.
Ticketing information should be available soon. The game will be broadcast on GolTV.
