Infographic: Sounders v. San Jose Earthquakes (Part 4)

New, 18 comments

The Sounders face the San Jose Earthquakes for the fourth time this year. Let's take a look at team stats, players to watch, and key players missing ahead of Wednesday's home match against the Quakes.

It feels like just yesterday when I posted a Sounders v. San Jose matchup graphic. Well, it wasn't yesterday, but it was only two and a half weeks ago. The Sounders have faced the Earthquakes three times this year, going 2-1-0 against "soccer city USA."

Both teams come into this game after a rough weekend. However, while the Sounders lost 2-1 in a hard-fought road battle, the Quakes lost 5-0 to FC Dallas at home.

Who is going to come out on top tomorrow? Let's take a look at team stats and key players ahead of Wednesday's home match against the San Jose Earthquakes.

Player / Injury Updates

For San Jose, center back Clarence Goodson is still out for a while due to a toe injury. Forward Steven Lenhart is still dealing with a knee problem and did not play over the weekend, while Yannick Djalo also remains questionable for Wednesday's match.

Coach Sigi Schmid said Marco Pappa was "back in the mix possibly for Wednesday." Brad Evans will be another game-day decision, although Schmid said he felt good on Monday.

Interesting Stats

The Sounders continue to score a lot of late goals. Over half (55%) of all Sounders goals are scored in the final 30 minutes.

While San Jose out-possessed (56.7% to 43.3%) and out-shot (25-18) Dallas this weekend, the Quakes only had five shots on goal, compared to Dallas' 10.

Obafemi Martins returns: Check. Clint Dempsey hungry for a goal: (Assumed) Check. Home crowd hungry for a win: Check.

Lets do this.
