Before the Seattle Reign can get too worried about where the NWSL Final would need to be played, they've got a semifinal they'll need to win first. The date of that final was announced on Friday, but the opponent is still to be determined.
The Reign will open their playoff campaign on Sunday, Aug. 24 at Memorial Stadium. The game will kick off at 8 p.m. and be aired live on ESPN2. It is the first time the Reign will appear on national television, although they did have a match shown on ESPN3. The Seattle Sounders will play the Portland Timbers on the road at 2 p.m. that same day.
The Reign will face whichever team finishes fourth in the regular-season standings. If the season were to end today that would be the Portland Thorns. The other possible opponents are the Washington Spirit, who are currently a point ahead of the Thorns and the Chicago Red Stars, whose are five points off the pace. The Red Stars have three matches remaining, while the Thorns and Spirit each have two.
