DC United at New York Red Bull

Three Big Storylines:

  1. The Galaxy have won five matches in a row and with a win can jump to the top of the Supporter's Shield race on total points.  Landon Donovan announced his retirement after the All-Star Game and ever since has been on an incredible run of form.  Donovan is four behind Steve Ralston for the MLS all time assist lead, look for Donovan to continually attempt to set up in form striker Gyasi Zardes.  The Impact have been not horrible recently with two wins in their last four and two in a row at home over Chicago and Columbus.  The addition of Dilly Duka has been a good one.
  2. DC United travel to Red Bull Arena with Supporter's Shield aspirations of their own but will be without Chris Rolfe who is out for six weeks after breaking his forearm in training.  Keeping with the retirement theme, Thierry Henry might be retiring.  If so, enjoy watching Henry why you still have the chance.  Here is his Golazo from last week.
  3. Vancouver have gone 411 minutes without scoring a goal, can they use all that offensive talent and get off the snide against the Quakes?  The Quakes just signed Pablo Pintos to help shore up their defense, but the Uruguayan right back will not be available as he awaits his visa and international transfer certificate.

From a Sounders perspective, who to cheer for is very easy.  We are all Impact and Red Bull fans tonight.  When it comes to Vancouver, they are out of the supporter's shield race but can impact our rivals from Draw City.  With a win the Whitecaps can push Portland below the red line.  It is looking increasingly likely that either Portland or Vancouver are going to earn the last playoff spot.

Great matchups midweek in MLS, with only three games the National TV Listings morphed into all TV listings.  Enjoy your mid-week MLS Gamethread.
