National TV Games:

New York Red Bulls at Philadelphia Union
NBC Sports Network, Noon, Saturday

Portland Timbers at Colorado Rapids
MLS Live, 6 PM Saturday. (Replay on Root Sports following the Mariners approximately 9:30)

LA Galaxy at San Jose Earthquakes
Unimas, Noon, Sunday

Three Big Storylines:

  1. The Red Bulls travel to Philly in a game with Eastern Conference playoff implications.  But there is also the US Open Cup final on Tuesday, time to get some scouting in for the next trophy.  Maurice Edu has been playing as an extremely effective CB for the Union, keep an eye on him and extrapolate how he will do against Clint and Oba.
  2. The Galaxy are at San Jose in what was supposed to be Landon Donovan's last appearance against a San Jose team he lead to the MLS Cup in 2001 and 2003.  But Donovan and Dan Gargan are both suspended due to yellow card accumulation.  The Galaxy will be starting a very makeshift lineup.
  3. It is not MLS, but Marco Pappa leads Guatemala in the Copa Centoamericana Final Saturday at 6 PM against Costa Rica.  Pappa leads the tournament with four goals while no one else has more than two.  The match takes place at the LA Coliseum.  From there, Pappa will meet the Sounders in Philly for the US Open Cup Final.

From a Sounders perspective we are looking for the Earthquakes to take points off the Galaxy and Vancouver to beat Dallas in Dallas.  A Vancouver win would also keep Portland below the red line.

Enjoy your MLS Gamethread for the weekend with the happiness that is three points in hand from a dramatic Friday win over a rival.
