Lamar Neagle nominated for Goal of the Week

Lamar Neagle scored the best goal in MLS this week. Sure, I hear your argument about Blas Perez's shot that was effectively the equivalent of a run-of-play olimpico. No one else will score a goal quite like Perez's this year. But you know what? It's not better than Neagle's.

How can I say this? Well, hear me out.

Perez's goal was completely on accident. He was probably trying to cross and his reaction suggests he was as surprised as anyone that it went in. But it was also the product of David Ousted getting caught flat footed. And don't try to tell me that it's like Obafemi Martins' goal from earlier this year. Martins knew what he was doing. Did he get a little lucky? Sure, but it was far more purposeful.

In any case, I think of Perez's goal as more clever parlor trick than great strike. I'd still be willing to give him the nod on most weeks, but Neagle's left-footed blast was just so beautiful that it can't be denied. Upper 90. Left footed. Run of play. It was perfect. Do the right thing, give him your vote.
