I'm writing this late Sunday night. The Seattle Sounders lost 4 to 1 against the New York Red Bulls more than 24 hours ago. I scheduled my whole Saturday around that turd of a game. While I can justify the game and subsequent loss as an unfortunate reality to schedule congestion and having just won a trophy after 120+ minutes played a few days earlier, it doesn't make sitting through a rough loss like that any better or more bearable, especially when that loss was punctuated by mistakes that were easily preventable.
If the plan was to rest certain players, it was a partial success. If the plan was to hopefully escape the game with a point, it was not a success. With the lineup rolled out, I can't imagine Sigi Schmid held high hopes of Seattle winning. I have to imagine he had a pretty high percentage of that lineup losing to NYRB, with a smaller percentage of getting a draw, and an even smaller percentage of getting a victory. It felt like the Vancouver game during the World Cup, where Seattle couldn't roll out a first choice squad and shot themselves in the foot.
Sure the Sounders are still in first place and control their destiny in regard to the Supporter's Shield and a shot at the treble. Win their next four games and a draw is all it'd take from the home and away series versus LA Galaxy. With three of their next four games and Seattle might need a win versus LA if the Galaxy don't drop any points.
Still, losing sucks, and knowing that Seattle had just won the US Open Cup and qualified for next year's CCL didn't take the sting out of being embarrassed. So instead of the normal gifs I'm just going to google all the negative emotions humans can feel and post the first usable gif I can find. Let's just get it out of our system before Dallas.
