Marco Pappa says he'll decline Guatemalan call-ups for rest of year

Decision is apparently part of a protest by several of his teammates.

It looks like the Seattle Sounders won't have to worry about losing Marco Pappa during the remaining FIFA dates. The Sounders midfielder announced on Twitter that he'll be declining any invitations and standing in solidarity with protesting compatriots who have apparently not ben paid in several months by their Guatemalan club.

Guatemala has matches scheduled for Oct. 11 (Venezuela) and 14 (Peru) that would have potentially forced Pappa to miss the Vancouver Whitecaps on Oct. 10 match and limit his training ahead of the LA Galaxy match on Oct. 19.

Pappa is coming off arguably his best ever performance for Guatemala, winning the Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards at the recently concluded Copa CentroAmericana. Pappa's four goals helped propel Guatemala into a surprise appearance in the tournament's championship game, where they fell just short to favored Costa Rica.
