Readers chose Clint Dempsey as man of the match, with an average rating of 7.47. Ozzie Alonso finished second with a 7.00 flat. About 230 readers submitted ratings for this one.
I found the scores a bit lower than I would have expected, as can be seen by reading through the scores below. My scores were higher for six of the 11. The community scores for Gonzalo Pineda and Leo Gonzalez were more than a full point lower than what I saw. I gave 8s to Dempsey, Pineda and Gonzalez, who I had named my man of the match. The score for Obafemi Martins was a full 1.5 higher from the community than what I saw. I'd love to read your thoughts on these discrepancies in the comments to this story.
Of course there is hardly time for that with another game on tap in just a few hours. The current busy schedule has left much less time for analyzing and discussion, but as long as the Sounders keep winning I'm sure we are all fine with that.

Player: Average Fan Rating (Author Rating) Difference
Stefan Frei 6.32 (6) +0.32
DeAndre Yedlin: 6.49 (7) -0.51
Chad Marshall: 6.97 (7) -0.03
Zach Scott: 6.44 (6) +0.44
Leo Gonzalez: 6.76 (8) -1.24 I have to think that the things that Leo offers in a match are underrated. His defense is so solid as to almost be invisible. The player going against him almost never gets a cross off; never even makes a pass forward. Keep an eye on that the next time Leo starts and tell me what you think.
Osvaldo Alonso: 7.00 (7) +0.00
Gonzalo Pineda: 6.54 (8) -1.46 Another big difference in rating here. I was interested to read that at least one reader thought that Gonzalo was partly to blame for the times the attack bogged down, getting too involved in play near the sidelines, leaving the Sounders overloaded and often with no outlets (if I'm stating that case clearly). I didn't see that, but I'll keep a closer eye out for it moving forward.
Brad Evans: 6.15 (6) +0.15
Marco Pappa: 6.48 (7) -0.52
Clint Dempsey: 7.47 (8) -0.53 I don't have a big problem with Clint winning man of the match as obviously I scored him even higher than the community. Still, in my notebook he was tied with Pineda and well behind Gonzalez in this one. I still marvel at how well he redirected that corner for a goal considered he hit it with his shin. That's either luck or really amazing skill.
Obafemi Martins: 6.50 (5) +1.50 I think it's bad form to criticize y'all too highly. But to me this score for Oba is based on reputation, and perhaps a bit of spillover from his dominating performance in Portland. I didn't see him as better than Frei, Yedlin, Scott, Evans and Pappa in this one game. I'm a little surprised that the averages work out that the community did.
Lamar Neagle: (74th minute) 5.32 (5) +0.32
Chad Barrett: (75th minute) 5.35 (5) +0.35
