Zach Scott could play this weekend

Despite being diagnosed with a painful sounding “bone-on-bone contusion”, the Sounders defender could be available for this weekend’s match.

Zach Scott went down with a clearly painful injury early in the match against FC Dallas. He left in the 36th minute, clearly hobbled and could not play against Chivas USA. At the time the extent of his injury was unknown. It was thought that he would be out for a significant period of time. Now, with the scans in he could even play this weekend.

"Nothing out of the ordinary except for a bone-on-bone contusion," Sigi Schmid told media about the scans after Tuesday's practice. "He's got an arthritic ankle. They took him from crutches to a boot and today he's walking without the boot. It's basically just day-by-day and how he feels."

That seems like something serious. I hear soccer players tend to play the sport with their feet. Ankles would be rather important - not for Zach Scott. Playing on an arthritic ankle is just a thing he does.

Still, he'd be out for a few more games, right? Maybe, maybe not.

"With Zach you never know," Sigi continued. "I wouldn't rule him out of the weekend, if he can improve each day like he's improved over the last two or three like he did."

Yes, he could go from crutches to playing in just 10 days. The diagnosis of a "bone-on-bone contusion" in an arthritic ankle would be significant for mortal men - this is Zach Scott.
