The most successful team in Mexican soccer history and the current CONCACAF Champions League title holders await the Seattle Sounders in the quarterfinals. The Sounders' fate was sealed when they ended up with the No. 8 seed after the LA Galaxy surrendered a late goal against Comunicaciones and Tigres UANL were forced to settle for a scoreless tie with Herediano.
The Galaxy would have been the No. 1 seed if they had held on for the win, and the Sounders would have faced No. 2 D.C. United if Herediano had won and claimed the No. 8 seed.
That means the Sounders will host Club America on Feb. 23-25 and visit famed Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on March 1-3. The 2016 MLS season will likely start the following the weekend.
This will be the Sounders' first-ever trip to Mexico City. Although they faced Cruz Azul in the 1996 CONCACAF Champions Cup, the match was played in Guatemala City.
